LEADVILLE, Colo. (July 10, 2008) — The 58th Annual Boom Days, which will take place in Leadville, Colo., Aug. 1-3, has been honored by the United States Congress as a Local Legacy Event. This celebration of the area’s mining heritage offers entertainment for people of all ages and interests, from mining competitions, motorcycle games and a rod and gun show, to live music, a craft fair and parade. The 21-mile Leadville Boom Days International Pack Burro Race — the second leg of Pack Burro Racing’s Triple Crown — is always a crowd favorite.

“Mining is an important part of Colorado’s history, and Boom Days is our way of celebrating that part of our heritage,” explains event chairperson Frank Bradach.  “The mining competitions demonstrate skills that helped thousands of the area’s prospectors turn Leadville into one of the country’s richest and longest-lived boomtowns. The weekend is packed with events and activities that the whole family will enjoy.”

Live entertainment continues throughout the day, with performances by Jenna, Gobs of Phun, the El Jebel Shrine Band, and Francesco, a world-famous whistler who also plays a combination of jazz, blue grass and county music. A dance and live music start at 8 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.
