FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LEADVILLE MUSEUMS KICK OFF SUMMER SEASON WITH DOLLAR DAYS LEADVILLE, Colo. (May 13, 2009) — Leadville museums are kicking off summer with a great deal. The six museums of Leadville, including the Heritage Museum, the Healy House and Dexter Cabin, the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, the Matchless Mine, the Tabor Home and the Tabor Opera House, will open their doors Memorial Day Weekend with $1 admission tickets on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24. Go to http://www.visitleadvillecolorado.com/history_tours for more information about the museums. “Whether this is your first time visiting these historic gems, or you visit often, you’re sure to see and learn something new,” said Bob Hartzell, Director of the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. “These museums preserve the dynamic, dramatic stories of Leadville’s past.” Visitors can learn about the Ice Palace at the Heritage, see the opulent interior design of the Dexter Cabin and follow the Tabor Saga through three museums: from the humble Tabor Home to the Tabor Opera House, open Saturday only, built at the height of Tabor’s wealth and power, to the Matchless Mine, where the tragic story ends. The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum offers an in-depth look at mining, including a 24-ounce gold nugget the size of a small fist, a room where kids can learn why mining is so important to everyday life, and life-size, walk-through replicas of a coal mine and a hardrock mine. Leadville is one of the most historic towns in Colorado. The Historical Walking Tour of the downtown district’s National Historic Landmark of Victorian Architecture, Route of the Silver Kings driving tour with 12 stops in 20-square miles of the area’s mining district, and the paved 12.5-mile Mineral Belt Trail offer additional ways to experience Leadville history and enjoy the scenery.
