Greetings!

May is Historic Preservation Month in Colorado, and there's no better place to celebrate
than Leadville and Twin Lakes.

Once one of America's bawdiest boomtowns, Leadville offers history buffs a peek
at life in the late 1800s, with a National Historic Landmark District of Victorian
architecture, six museums, the largest opera house west of the Mississippi, the
saloon visited by Oscar Wilde and two historic 1879 churches. Just 15 minutes from
town, the Village of Twin Lakes provides additional opportunities to experience
a glimpse of Colorado's past. Click here for a list of ways you can enjoy Leadville's rich history in May and throughout the summer months.

Stop by the Leadville Lake County Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Avenue when you're
in town. You'll find maps, brochures and friendly folks to answer your questions.
You can stay in touch by following us on , and the blog, too.

Celebrating our History
May is also when many area businesses and activities open for the season. From museums
and lodging companies to Mt. Massive Golf Course, Mega Mountain Magic, the Leadville
Colorado & Southern Railroad and the Hopemore Mine Tours, folks are busy all over town getting ready for your visit. In addition to the opening dates on our calendar, there are some special celebrations this summer:

The Healy House Museum, shown, turns 75 and is celebrating with an open house on
May 27, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The museum has undergone extensive restoration this winter
and, along with the Dexter Cabin, should be on your list of stops when you're in town.

The historic Delaware Hotel turns 125 this year and is celebrating all summer long
with Victorian teas, storytelling, a Molly Brown weekend, and weekly tours and entertainment.
Hotel guests will also be registered for drawings to win a stay at fellow Historic
Hotels of the Rockies properties.
