Dear Friends,Summer is in full swing here in Lake County, Colorado. Our cool temperatures and
sunny skies are calling, it's time to stop what you're doing and pack your bags!
There's something fun to do every day this summer...from races, competitions and
special events to antique shopping, fishing and museum tours. You might even catch
a shootout on Wild West Wednesdays and Weekends! We're especially proud to celebrate the grand opening of the Leadville/Lake County Community Park on August 29. Check the events calendar often to find out what's going on.

DON'T MISS THE 59TH ANNUAL BOOM DAYS CELEBRATION!
Mark your calendar now for the 59th Annual Boom Days, which will take place in downtown Leadville, Colo., Aug. 7-9. This celebration of the area's mining heritage runs
the gamut, from mining competitions, bicycle and motorcycle games and a rod and
gun show, to live music, softball tournment, a craft fair, an auto show and a parade.
Kids have their own old-fashioned fun with three-legged races, a sack race, water
balloon toss and ever-popular money pit.
This year's 21-mile Leadville Boom Days International Pack Burro Race - the second
leg of Pack Burro Racing's Triple Crown - marks the 60th year of burro racing in
Leadville. Pick up a schedule at the information booth in front of the County Courthouse,
or click here for more information about this fun-packed mountain-town festival.

GOLD RUSH CONTEST: FALL GETAWAYS
We've just given away the first two prizes in the Gold Rush Getaway Contest,
and there are still four to go! At the end of this month, we'll be drawing for these
two grand prizes:
October Getaway: Two nights in the Jesse McDonald suite at the Governor's Mansion
Guest Suites in Leadville. Includes a private guided tour of Lake County's Evergreen
Cemetery by Forget-Me-Not Genealogical and Historic Research, and lunch or dinner
at Casa Blanca courtesy of Pueblo Bank and Trust.
Fall Foliage Getaway: One-night stay in a King Room at the Historic Delaware Hotel
in Leadville. Includes breakfast and lunch for two at Callaway's Restaurant, a t-shirt/cap
combo from the Delaware Mercantile, a $10 gift certificate for the Firehouse General
Store, and two tickets for a scenic ride on the Leadville, Colorado and Southern
Railroad.
In addition, all six Weekend Getaway winners get a family membership to the National
Mining Hall of Fame & Museum; a souvenir mug from Fire on the Mountain Pottery;
an "olde tyme" shopping spree from Hundley's Olde Tyme Gifts and Fudge, including
a ½ lb. of homemade fudge, a $20 gift card and a personal introduction to Leadville
and its old West history; and a portrait sitting, contact sheet and 8x10" portrait
from the Leadville Picture Co.

Friday, August 7: Duke Davis and his band, Buckshot, perform at the Historic Tabor
Opera House; "Escanaba in da Moonlight" at the National Mining Hall of Fame &
Museum, written by Jeff Daniels, this is the comedic story of the first day of deer
camp on the upper peninsula of Michigan (another performance on Friday, August 14)
Saturday, August 8: The Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad's Wildflower
Special Train Ride is followed by lunch and garden tour at the Healy House Museum;
Leon Joseph Littlebird performs at the Historic Tabor Opera House
Saturday, August 15: Take a Night Ride on the Leadville Colorado & Southern
Railroad; Buena Vista Madams perform at the Historic Tabor Opera House
Friday, August 21: Keir Mathur Magic, an evening of magic, mystery and comedy at
the Historic Tabor Opera House
Friday, August 28: "The Legacy of the Little Pittsburgh" at the Matchless Mine,
geologist and mining historian Fred Mark tells the story of the Little Pittsburgh
Mine
Saturday, August 29: Grand Opening of the Leadville/Lake County "Aug"toberfest at
Twin Lakes, featuring authentic German food and beer. Those Austrian Guys, one of
Colorado's favorite oompah bands, will perform from 1-5 p.m.
September 26-27: Annual Music Jam at Twin Lakes, all musicians welcome to join in!
