Happy New Year! We hope that 2009 is off to a good start for you and your family.
There are a lot of things to look forward to this year...the 60th annual Ski Joring competition will take place March 7-8, along with a family-oriented Crystal Carnival. We'll
be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Colorado Gold Rush all summer. And right
now, the snow is incredible no matter how you enjoy it: on skis or snowshoes, building
a snowman, or curled up inside by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa!

HIGH-COUNTRY RECREATION AT ITS BEST
Leadville and Twin Lakes are winter playgrounds for powderhounds and sledders. With more than 35,000 acres of snow-covered wilderness crisscrossed by miles and miles of trails, you can spend days and days exploring some of the most beautiful terrain in the state. Make a long weekend out of it and spend one day at Ski Cooper, one day on a snowmobile and one day on snowshoes. Call or stop by the Lake County Visitor Center for trail maps and information about rental equipment. Please use trails safely:
don't go out into the wilderness alone; make sure someone knows where you're headed
and when you're planning to return.

February 21-22 - This annual event at Twin Lakes is a favorite with ice fishing
enthusiasts. Don't miss it!
