There is a lot going on in Leadville and Twin Lakes this winter, we hope you're planning to join us for some of the fun! There are competitions of all sorts, from the Twin Lakes Ice Fishing Derby, Crystal Carnival and Ski Joring to the Winter Mountain Bike Series, winter triathlons and Nordic events. Ski Cooper and Chicago Ridge, Dutch Henri Sledding Hill, the Lake County Ice Rink and the Mineral Belt Trail all offer outdoor activities throughout the winter, and the Lake County Recreation Department always has something going on! Be sure to check the calendar and the blog often.

Ski Joring & Crystal Carnival

Winter is a cause for celebration in here Leadville, Colo., the highest incorporated city in North America. At 10,152', we've learned to make the most of out winter and are gearing up for a weekend of ski joring and snow-themed activities. The 61st Annual Ski Joring Competition, which entails a horse and rider pulling a skier down a snow-packed road over jumps while spearing rings in a timed competition, takes place in downtown Leadville on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Mar. 6-7.

The Crystal Carnival, which commemorates the original winter festival held in Leadville in 1896, offers a not-your-usual-winter-weekend experience for the entire family: a parade and snowman-building contest for kids; sled dog, Nordic, snowshoe and mountain bike races; and broomball games. Crystal Carnival Drink & Dessert Contest

Are your taste buds ready? The 2nd Annual Crystal Carnival Original Drink & Dessert Contest is underway!  Vote for your favorites before March 5. Winners will be announced during the Crystal Carnival.
