LEADVILLE ATTRACTIONS

There are so many things to do and see in Lake County. The Leadville Lake County Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Avenue in downtown Leadville is a great resource for maps, menus, brochures and information about these and other area attractions.

Camp Hale and the 10th Mountain Division
Camp Hale, training site of the 10th Mountain Division, prepared troops for winter survival during World War II. Camp Hale was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1992. There are interpretive signs at the Camp Hale site and at the entrance to Ski Cooper.

Community Events
Leadville and Twin Lakes, Colorado, host special events and activities throughout the year, including Ski Joring held the first full weekend in March; the Leadville Trail 100 race series; and Boom Days, held the first full weekend in August.

Community Park and Sports Complex
After four years of hard work, the Leadville Lake County Community Park and Sports Complex opened in August 2009. The complex includes a sport field with synthetic turf, playground and restrooms, with more additions on the way!

Downtown Leadville
Quaint specialty shops, antique stores and eateries line the Victorian-style streets of downtown Leadville, mixed in with elegant 1880s inns and B&Bs. 70 square blocks have been designated as a National Historic Landmark District of Victorian architecture.

Historic Village of Twin Lakes
Twin Lakes, a transportation hub between Aspen and Leadville during the gold rush days, was described in 1885 as "the most charming summer mountain resort in Colorado." Twin Lakes is now a year-round destination with nearly endless outdoor recreation activities.

Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad
High in the Rocky Mountains, the Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad takes sightseers,  on a scenic journey through untouched wilderness. Along the way, you'll experience the beauty of the Arkansas River Valley and Colorado’s two highest peaks.

Leadville Lake County Airport
At an elevation of 9,927', the Leadville Lake County Airport is the highest airport in North America. Services include 24-hour fuel, courtesy and rental car assistance, and a free pilot certificate upon arrival at "North America's Highest Airport."

Mineral Belt Trail
This 12.5-mile all-season, paved ADA-accessible trail passes through the historic district and stands of trees and foliage. Perfect for skate skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter, and hiking, biking or rollerblading during the warmer months.

Mt. Massive Golf Course
Try Mt. Massive, North America's highest golf course, for friendly, affordable golf in a spectacular setting. Players of all skill levels will find Mt. Massive a challenging course with small-town charm. Amenities include golf carts, a full-service grill and bar and advance bookings .

Museums & Tours 
Leadville is one of the most historic towns in all of Colorado, with six museums, a walking tour of the National Landmark of Victorian Architecture and a driving tour to enjoy the area's rich history. Stop by the Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Avenue for maps and information.

Ski Cooper and Chicago Ridge
Ski Cooper, located atop Tennessee Pass, ten miles north of Leadville, Colorado, on U.S. Highway 24, offers fun and affordable winter recreation. Amenities include lessons, equipment rentals, day care, and a Nordic center.

Top of the Rockies Scenic & Historic Byway
With altitudes rarely falling below 9,000 feet, the Top of the Rockies National Scenic and Historic Byway is worthy of its name. Colorado travelers cross the 10,424-foot Tennessee Pass on Route 24 from Minturn, en route to Leadville and Twin Lakes.
